From Saturday, June 02, 2012 - 09:00am To Sunday, June 03, 2012 - 03:00pm
Jean Van Pelt
The purpose for the tours is to provide the public an opportunity to see that a Xeriscape landscape can be beautifully lush while conserving water. It is a fact that in Colorado 50 percent of our treated, drinkable water is applied outdoors on our landscapes. That is water we could be using for washing, cooking, and drinking instead of sprinkling our grass with it.
The tour will illustrate that Xeriscaping is easy to do and it is very functional. The tour provides an opportunity to learn how to create an outside environment that echos the natural beauty of our region.
To assist others with the concepts of Xeriscape, homeowners and knowledgeable gardeners will be available onsite at each tour garden to answer questions. In addition, a Xeriscape resource handout and biographies about each garden will be available and many of the plants will be labeled.
There is no cost for attending the tour. An attendee is free to visit any and all of the gardens at their leisure, and in any order they wish on the appointed day for that community, Saturday, June 2, 2012 in Pueblo and Sunday, June 3, 2012 in Pueblo West. The tour times for both days will be from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Maps of tour locations is available at www.secwcdxeriscape.org.
